Corrupting Fever is a spell that grants a similarly-named buff. While the buff is active, hitting enemies will inflict stacks of Corrupted Blood on them that deal physicaldamage over time, up to a maximum of 10 stacks.

Skill functions and interactions
Casting Corrupting Fever costs life instead of mana. Spending enough life while the Corrupting Fever buff is active will refresh its duration; the spent life threshold is much lower than the cost of Corrupting Fever itself.
Inflicting a new stack of corrupted blood on a target will refresh the duration of all stacks currently on that target, as is common with all corruped blood mechanics.[1]
Hits do not need to deal damage in order to inflict corrupting blood stacks.
As it does only Damage Over Time, it is not affected by modifiers to Spell Damage.
Proxies such as Totems, Traps and Mines will not inflict corrupted blood on hit as they cannot inherit the Corrupting Fever buff from the player.[2]

Note that helmet enchantments are no longer obtainable since version 3.23.0 and can only be obtained in permanent leagues as already enchanted items from before this patch.
The skill gem's description erroneously describes the debuff inflicted as "Corrupting Blood"; however, the Helmet Enchantment and gem quality correctly lists the debuff as Corrupted Blood, which it shares mechanics with other sources of.

Hits do not need to deal damage in order to inflict corrupting blood stacks. As it does only Damage Over Time, it is not affected by modifiers to Spell Damage.
Corrupting Fever applies Corrupted Blood. Corrupted Blood is only a debuff, not an ailment, which is why the effect of Corrupted Blood does not depend the damage or damage type of the hit that inflicted it.
Physical damage over time can be inflicted with the bleed ailment. Every 10 points of strength give a 2% bonus to physical damage from melee attacks. The Iron Grip keystone passive extends this bonus to also apply to physical damage from projectiles. The Iron Grip Support gem applies the same effect to a single skill.
The exact number is 35,791,394, or (231 - 1) / 60, or the damage cap divided by 60 seconds in a minute (as damage over time is internally calculated per minute instead of per second).
Corrupted blood can also be completely avoided by using a jewel with the corrupted implicit modifier Corrupted Blood cannot be inflicted on you. A non-jewel Delve mod of the same mod text, can also be found in the Azurite Mine.
