Located in Uganda, Kingdom Home provides a place of refuge, restoration and hope for children at risk. Over 100 children, both girls and boys, have been taken in from sex trafficking, gender-based violence, forced child marriages and abandonment. The organization has three homes and provides for each child’s material, emotional, educational and spiritual needs, including access to an education and vocational training. This is accomplished largely through child sponsorships. The goal is for these children to live safe and free, while reducing the likelihood that they would enter the sex trade or exploitative labor in the future...In addition to Kingdom Home, Boyd is a very active member in the Detroit and Lakeland communities. During the 2020 season, he played a significant role in the club’s efforts in the area of COVID-19 prevention and relief, while continuing to help in other important spaces such as honoring veterans, first responders and those in need...In 2019 and 2020, Boyd contributed and served as a spokesman for the Detroit Tigers participation in MLB’s league wide Home Plate Project which, in 2020, resulted in a gift of $30,000 to Detroit Public Schools Community District to help feed students as a result of the unanticipated school closures due to COVID-19.

Opened the 2015 season in the Toronto Blue Jays organization before being acquired by the Tigers along with Daniel Norris and Jairo Labourt in exchange for David Price on July 30. In 13 appearances, including 12 starts, between the Tigers and Blue Jays in 2015, he compiled a 1-6 record with a 7.53 ERA (57.1IP/48ER) and 43 strikeouts. Compiled a 9-2 record with a 1.65 ERA (114.2IP/21ER) and 108 strikeouts in 19 minor league starts. Won the MiLB.com fans' choice vote for best starting pitcher in the minor leagues. Selected as a minor league All-Star and a Double-A All-Star by Baseball America...in 19 starts in the minors, he led all qualified starters in WHIP (0.85) and opponent batting average (.176), while he was second in ERA. Assigned to Double-A New Hampshire to begin the season and did not allow a run in his first three starts, a span that stretched 14.1 innings. Named the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the week ending May 17 after finishing the week with a 1-0 record, a 0.00 ERA (12.0IP/0ER) and 11 strikeouts in two starts. Finished the month of May with a 3-0 record, a 1.19 ERA (37.2IP/5ER) and 30 strikeouts in six starts. Made one relief appearance for the Tigers on August 19 at the Chicago Cubs and tossed 0.2 innings. Posted a 1-3 record with a 5.40 ERA (36.2IP/22ER) and 27 strikeouts in seven home starts...went 0-3 with a 11.32 ERA (20.2IP/26ER) and 16 strikeouts in six appearances, five starts, on the road.
